The red within us

To my friend Noah, who always brings something valuable to the debate (and can also link virtually any topic to capitalism!).

That cycle you don’t have

That culminates in a stream of red

Is both empowering

And impairing.

That cycle you don’t have

Turns our mood into a rollercoaster

And makes feelings run over each other

Just like racing cars.

That cycle you don’t have

Coordinates our hearts with the moon

Makes us illuminate the night

Even if the stars don’t shine.

That cycle you don’t have

Allows us to multiply

And to raise a hope for the future

That shares the features of our smile.

That cycle you don’t have

Gives us pain and cravings

Inflates the emotional value

Of a chocolate bar, a glass of wine.

That cycle you don’t have

Drives us crazy in so many ways

Through spikes of hormones

In our veins.

That cycle you don’t have

Is something you will never fully understand

Not through science , or philosophy

Not even this poem

Will ever make it clear.

I know that in your head

The cycle you don’t have

Will remain a mystery

That makes you deeply respect

The cycle we do have.
